“A True Story of the Two Tenors” – is it true? This powerpoint presentation titled “A True Story of the Two Tenors” together with a beautiful song unfolded a story about José Carreras and Plácido Domingo (two of the world famous 3 tenors) and claimed that they were enemies but Domingo helped Carreras and secretly financed his treatment of leukaemia through a foundation called Hermosa and they later on became good friends… BUT,…
Like many of you, I was touched when I read the story. No matter how beautiful it may sound, the story is not true – many sources can verify that including the official statement from the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation site:
In relation to the information published in different websites referring to a supposed financing by a Hermosa Foundation and Mr. Plácido Domingo of Mr. José Carreras’ leukaemia treatment, the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation and Mr. José Carreras himself feel compelled to deny all these in formations, especially refuting that any relationship exists or has ever existed between the pretended Hermosa Foundation and Mr. Carreras. No financial assistance from Mr. Domingo nor from said Hermosa Foundation, whose existence is totally unknown to him, nor from any other source was ever requested, neither received. Moreover, Mr. José Carreras has a special interest in stating that friendship, profound admiration and mutual respect have always presided his relationship with Mr. Domingo. Mr. José Carreras has started legal action in defence of his own interest and right to honour and has the firm intention of legally acting against any person or corporation publishing non-confirmed and untrue informations on his person.
The only true fact in the story is José Carreras did have leukaemia but it was later cured and he founded his own José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation. The forwarded powerpoint came with a song AMIGOS PARA SIEMPR (You’ll always be my friend), sung by Sarah Brightman and José Carreras. The song, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona was touching enough to add more sensation to the story.
Well the story may be untrue. Let’s at least celebrate the two great tenors’ friendship and great talent.
(Friends for life)
Sarah
I don’t have to say
A word to you
You seem to know
Whatever mood
I’m going through
Feels as though
I’ve known you forever
José
You
Can look into my eyes and see
The way I feel
And how
The world is treating me
Maybe I have known you forever
both
Amigos para siempre
Means you’ll always be my friend
Amics per sempre
Means a love that cannot end
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
I feel you near me
Even when we are apart
Just knowing you are in this world
Can warm my heart
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
Sarah
We share memories
I won’t forget
And we’ll share more,
My friend,
We haven’t started yet
Something happens
When we’re together
José
When
I look at you
I wonder why
There has to come
A time when we must say goodbye
I’m alive when we are together
both
Amigos para siempre
Means you’ll always be my friend
Amics per sempre
Means a love that cannot end
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
I feel you near me
Even when we are apart
Just knowing you are in this world
Can warm my heart
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
José
